Leather Boot Care - Step-by-Step Guide

Whether you own a timeless pair of boots with classic leather or exotic, proper care is essential to keep your boots lasting for years. Our guide covers the steps to maintain the statement of style, craftsmanship and tradition that make your boots unique.

Classic Leather

Follow the 4 steps below to ensure a perfect shine of your boots.

Step 1

Clean

Use a damp microfibre cloth to wipe off any dirt and residue as needed. Be sure that the cloth is not wet! Take care not to scratch the leather in this step.


Allow your boots to dry thoroughly before conditioning or polishing.

Step 2

Condition

Apply a high-quality leather conditioner to moisturize the material, preventing it from becoming brittle and developing cracks. The conditioner will nourish the leather and keep it soft, smooth and shining.

When using conditioner focus on regions, that crease the most, such as the flex point of the toes.

Allow your boots to dry thoroughly before applying polish or weatherproofing. It is recommended to apply leather conditioner minimum of twice annually to ensure optimal care.

Step 3

Polish

To apply polish, use a slightly damp cloth. Dip the cloth in polish, and work into the leather using a circular motion. We recommend a cream or wax-based polish. Choose a colour that matches as closely to your footwear as possible or use neutral polish to avoid altering the color of your boots.


Allow the leather to absorb the polish for 10 minutes before buffing with a brush. Use a natural bristle brush, and move in quick side to side movements.
Buff your leather gently! This will bring the shine back to the leather.

Step 4

Protect

Use a leather protectant balm or spray for weather-proofing your footwear. Focus on creases, seams, and stitching. Let the product absorb and wipe off excess. Allow the leather to dry completely for effective protection against water and stains.

Repeat for an added layer of defense, preserving the leather's durability and natural qualities.

Exotic Leather

Boots made of exotic leather are a statement piece that require extra care.

Alligator and Lizard

Use a soft, damp cloth to gently remove loose dirt or dust from exotic reptile leather. Following the cleaning process with a soft cloth, lightly apply a thin coat of conditioner specifically designed for exotic leather. Allow your boots to dry thoroughly before using a soft cloth to buff them for a polished finish.

Snake

Softly wipe the leather surface with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid water or cleaning solutions to prevent leather damage, taking care not to lift the scales during cleaning. For conditioning, choose a product specifically designed for snakeskin, applying it lightly as snakeskin requires minimal conditioning.

Ostrich

Take a soft, damp cloth or rag to gently wipe away loose dirt or dust from the ostrich leather. Following the cleaning, use a soft cloth to lightly apply a thin coat of exotic leather conditioner. Once your ostrich boots have dried, use a soft cloth to buff them for a polished finish.
